A Simple Guide to Taking Oral Troches
Oral troches—sometimes called lozenges or sublingual tablets—are an easy and effective way to take certain medications without swallowing pills or using injections. At TelemedWeightLoss, we offer troches as part of select wellness and weight loss programs to make treatment more convenient and comfortable for our patients.
Whether you’re using troches at home or working with your healthcare provider, here’s how to use them correctly for best results:
-
Wash Your Hands
Clean your hands thoroughly with soap and water before touching your troche. This helps prevent contamination. -
Open Carefully
Remove the troche from its packaging gently, making sure it stays intact. -
Place It Under the Tongue
Position the troche beneath your tongue or, if directed, between your cheek and gum. This allows the medication to absorb directly into your bloodstream. -
Let It Dissolve Naturally
Avoid chewing or swallowing the troche. Give it time to fully dissolve for maximum absorption. -
Pause Eating or Drinking
Don’t eat or drink while the troche is dissolving—this can reduce its effectiveness. -
Follow Your Dosage Plan
Always take your troches exactly as instructed by your healthcare provider. Never adjust the dose on your own. -
Store Correctly
Keep troches in a cool, dry place away from sunlight and moisture. Check the medication guide for any special storage needs. -
Stay in Touch with Your Provider
